About Matthew Tilley

As a child, I was saved when I put my faith wholly and solely on Jesus Christ to be my “wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.” My conversion came after I was exposed to the Gospel by my father and mother, independent Baptist missionaries to the military in Europe. It was also in this environment that I suffered from “cultural Christianity,” a disease that plagued me through the early years of my marriage. It wasn’t until I was exposed to Scripture, prayer and the encouragement of fellow believers that I heard another call from God: this time to be a preacher of His Word. In the summer of 2005, I surrendered to that call.

I am convinced that I am to live out this call as a pastor of a local church. God has given me the desire to pastor, disciple and equip willing and passionate people to exalt Christ, edify one another and evangelize a lost world.

Ministerial Experience

Itinerant Preaching (January 2013–Present) – Hillsborough, NC area
This is still a work in progress as I have moved to a new area.  But, as the Lord provides opportunity, I plan to be available for pulpit fill, to preach for those in need and to serve within my local church.

Pastor (September 2009–November 2012) – Crestview Baptist Church Winston-Salem, NCserving at church
I provided preaching, visitation, pastoral care, counseling and administration as a bi-vocational pastor. The primary work was to strengthen this established church after the retirement of a long-serving pastor. The Lord blessed with 20% growth in membership in 2011 and continued strong growth in 2012. I resigned with an eye toward preparation for long term, full-time ministry.

Itinerant Preaching (October 2005–September 2009) – Winston-Salem, NC area
Based out of Freedom Baptist Church in Rural Hall, NC and under the leadership of Dr. J.T. Byerly, I provided pulpit supply for several area churches, as well as in Nassau, Bahamas (Liberty Baptist Church); Kigali, Rwanda (Kigali Baptist Church); and Elderot, Kenya (Faith Baptist Church).

WifeandkidsInterim Pastor (Sept. 2008–Jan. 2009) – Cedardale Baptist Church Winston-Salem, NC
I served as interim pastor for a few months as this small congregation decided how best to move forward.

Various Lay Ministries (August 2004–September 2008) – Freedom Baptist Church Rural Hall, NC
As an active member of the church, I participated in a variety of ministries, including:
